Strengthening HIV Prevention Services for Most at Risk Population (SHiPS for MARPs Project) in PHALGA & Okrika LGAs of River State

Rhema Care in partnership with Society for Family Health (SFH) under the 2016 Grant Agreement implemented Strengthening HIV Prevention Services for Most at Risk Population (SHiPS for MARPs Project) in PHALGA & Okrika LGAs of River State. The goal of the project is improving the life of Nigerian by reducing the incidence of HIV/AIDS among Most at Risk Population. The project targeted … female sex worker; including brothel based, street based, and runs girls. As a step towards achieving the objectives of the project, Rhema Care implemented a number of activities including stakeholders engagement at the State, Local Government and Community level, sites mapping, community awareness and sensitization, advocacy and community dialogue meeting, mobile HIV counseling and testing outreach, STIs screening and treatment, escort services, per education, condom and lubricant distribution, PLHIV support group meeting, trainings and review meetings, interpersonal communication, among others.

Some key outcome of Rhema Care intervention includes increase awareness and sensitization on risk reduction, HIV counseling and testing services, linkage to and retention on treatment, STIs screening and treatment, transition from behavior change to behavior maintenance, successful referrals on treatment of HIV, STIs, and Cervical Cancer, formation of PLHIV support group, distribution of safer sex products; (Male and Female Condom, & Lubricant), and over 200 FSWs reached with MPPI.
