Local Partners for Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Nigeria (LOPIN – Region 1) project is a project that the sub recipient is Association for Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH) with funding from United States Agency for International Development (USAID) was implemented to improve the well-being and quality of life of Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and their household in six wards (10, 11, 12, 13, 16 and 17) in Obio/ Akpor and six wards 2,6,7,9,11 &12 comprising of 16 communities in Okrika LGA of Rivers State through comprehensive and efficient service delivery. As a step towards achieving adequate service to the enrolled OVC and their Households, Rhema Care implemented series of activities including caregivers’ programs, kids club, adolescent clubs, review meetings with community volunteers, Referral for HIV Counseling and Testing Services, Emergency responses (Health and Education) Household economic strengthening, monitoring and supervision, care and support, educational support, advocacy, child protection, birth registration, etc. Some key outcomes of the project include mitigation of the impacts of HIV on affected families through economic strengthening, improving caregivers’ capacity for appropriate parenting, reduction of gender inequality, improvement of adherence for PLHIV, Assisted referral for PLHIVs, increasing awareness on the plights of OVC among relevant stakeholders and improved organization capacity and collaboration of local stakeholders at CBO, Community and LGA level in analyzing and delivering on quality services to OVC.
